How to prepare for CA CPT in 60 Days

“Fact  – If you are ready,  it is easy to clear CA CPT with 60 days preparation”

Study Material

When you register for CA CPT with ICAI, you will get 4 text books (one for each subject) and 2 mock test books (30 model papers).

This ICAI material is your best source of knowledge for CA CPT exams. If you complete all the questions given in 4 books and 30 model papers it is more than enough, you don’t need any additional material.

Your 3 steps of success

First step in your preparation is to start understanding and learning the concepts. Start taking subjects one by one following the time-table.

Now what should be your method of studying?

  1. First a fast reading of the chapter should be done.. usually one page should not be given more than 5 minutes
  2. Second reading should be slower, understanding each topic clearly.
  3. Once the reading is done all questions given in the book should be attempted. First attempt all questions without using any answers and then check all questions at the end
  4. You should mark your questions in a special way..i.e. the questions which were correct in the first attempt should be crossed and there is no need to attempt these questions again…all other questions which were incorrect should be done on next revision and follow the same steps of crossing the correct questions at that time.

Revision is a very important part for achieving success in any exam. You remember only 20% of what you read after 24 hours, so multiple quick revisions are very necessary. See timetable for the frequency of revisions required.

Practice is the most important part of your preparation and should be given 100% focus. Once you have completed your first revision, its time to take mock test.. mock test help a lot in preparing you for exam day and also highlight your weak areas.

Read this post on why mock tests are important and this post where CA Final topper tells how mock tests helped her.

Study Group

Forming a study group helps in discussing queries and getting a better understanding of the subject. If you have friends taking CA CPT exam then you can form a study group with them or else you join an online forum for forming a discussion Group.

Exam Day

You should be completely relaxed and rested for the final exam day. See this post on tips for CA CPT Exam Day.

Generally it takes 15-20 days, but it also depends on your location. Call ICAI to check the status.

    • prabhat says

Hi Deep, only way to success is hard work. If you are weak in your concepts, you can take coaching, that will really help your.

It is true that IPC is much more difficult then CPT, but yet again everything is possible with hard work.

  14. says

respected sir i have failed cpt 5 times tis is my last attempt wat shall i do to pass sir.and also i m working only night time i can study how many hours should i study sir gud afternoon

    • prabhat says

Sharvana, you should rather try some other courses such as an MBA after completing your graduation. CA course gets more difficult in IPC and Final and without proper time and planning you will not be able to clear those levels.

    • prabhat says

Hi Divya, 4 subjects are not very difficult. You can allot times to all subjects and then prepare as per timetable.

Sir, i hadn’t taken maths as my subject in 12th. I want to know which chapters can be more easily completed for cpt preparation

      Hi Saumya,

All chapters are equally important and easy to understand. You can start picking and start understanding and practicing as per your comfort. It will be good if you take some good coaching for maths.
