Recently the following news was rumored on the Internet (ICAI has already clarified that this is not true and there is no change in the passing criteria…..what we have done is only a what if analysis)
“ICAI has changed the passing criteria for CA CPT, IPCC & Final
Passing criteria at all level of the CA examination i.e. CPT, IPC and Final has been changed to 55% marks in aggregate and 45% for individual subjects w.e.f. May, 2015 Examinations.”
ICAI issued following notification for announcing that this is not true

[sociallocker id=”1679″]Thanks for sharing the post. Click here to download[/sociallocker]Let us assume for a minute that it was true, then how will it effect the results & placements
Existing Passing Criteria
CA CPT – 30% in individual subjects and 50 % aggregate
A IPC & Final – 40% in individual subjects and 50% in aggregate
How is this change going to affect
- Individual passing % in CPT will be increased from 30% to 45% and aggregate form 50% to 55%. This should result in bringing down the overall result of CPT which has been quite high since the beginning at close to 30%. See this post for passing trends in past 6 attempts.
- Individual passing % in IPCC & Final will be increased from 40% to 45% and aggregate from 50% to 55%. This again would result in bringing down the existing result % of IPCC and Final. See this post for past pass % of IPC and this post for past pass % of Final
- One major impact of fall in result will be the reduction in no. of students finally passing the CA examination. This in turn may prove helpful in increasing the placement % which has seen a huge fall in in recent placement programs. See this post on analysis of CA placements in last 5 years. ICAI has been struggling in trying to increase the placement % but this has not proved useful yet.
At least this will reduce the no. of CA’s
Such rumours are not gonna make any difference.. CA students are determined and supposed to give their best..

There are no changes to revised passing marks. this is a old post.
Wht is the passing criteria of ipcc both group in Nov 2015
i am regtered for dec 2015 & if i m nt cleared cpt in this attempt and as syllabus is changed in 2016 then i will again registered for cpt(as my books are old) and study according to new syllabus or not very much confused?????
This 45% in subject and 55% in aggregate will reduce huge numbers of admission. Where CMA & CS are remaining with same eligible passing standard. Ultimately it will detrimentally affect the profession and the new entrants will gather more at those two profession. CA is a professional exam not IAS exam. IAS is the test of elimination where as CA is the test of qualification.
i think passing criteria has to be change for CA all level at least aggregate % have to reduce or change because no of students are getting problem by this aggregate %
Passing criteria… and pass % must be changed… former must b increased and latter must b reduced…
It will shoot up our packages…trust me.. scarcity of CAs is directly related to packeges they get…
Higher d scarcity higher d packages…
I really want ICAI to bring such change…frm d bottom of my heart.. 🙂
